United States Post Office opens 24/7 Automated Postal Center

Demonstrating that automated retail leader AVT is in the right place at the right time, the US Postal Service is now offering a 24 hour Automated Postal Center (APC) at the Casper, Wyoming's main Post Office, located at 411 N. Forest Drive.

The self-service retail machine is the postal equivalent of an ATM machine. The Automated Postal Center (APC) provides a variety of postal self-service, from buying stamps to mailing by certified mail, Express mail, purchasing insurance and mailing from small packages up to 70 pounds. The machine accepts credit or debit cards and is English and Spanish capable. The Casper Post Office will be promoting the new APC with an open house from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday., March 31st.

At the same time, the USPS plans to shut down the Carol Stream, Illinois Office and cut 7,500 Jobs.

Regarding the district office closings, an article from Chicago Breaking Business reports that the USPS chose to focus on shutting down offices that are either in rural locations or offices that are not entirely necessary. Even if these locations close, it is argued that residents in each of the respective regions are able to access other offices nearby, which eases the blow a little bit. Furthermore, the same article highlights that cutting 7,500 employees will save the USPS a lot of money, even if it sounds incredibly drastic.
